The following students were accepted to the UNO Heartland Festival Middle School Honor Choir: Sydney Guzinski, Mia Linder, Ellen Magnusson, Angel Henry, Truman Wood, Luke Richards, and Caleb Sechler. The UNO Middle School Honor Choir is essentially the 'All-State' of Middle School Honor Choirs, and only 10 are allowed to audition from each school. There will be roughly 80 junior high singers from Easter Nebraska at this honor choir. All of them earned their spots in this very high level ensemble. Oakland-Craig auditioned 10 singers and 7 were accepted! This is a huge honor! These 7 JH students have spent time preparing their music, and are excited for the opportunity to sing under the baton of Dr. Derrick Fox. This experience is one that has been long lived at O-C. I am proud to uphold the tradition that Mrs. Blanc started with this Honor Choir. It is of the highest quality, and the music is VERY challenging. Proud doesn't begin to describe how I feel about these 7 singers. They really shined in their auditions, and I am elated to bring such a great group to this competitive honor.
Oakland-Craig hosted, for the first time, the Sing Around Nebraska Festival Honor Choir. Seven schools participated: O-C, Tekamah-Herman, Wynot Public, Trinity Lutheran, JCAC, Pender, and North Bend Central. A total of 91 elementary singers gathered for fun-filled day of music making.
The clinician was Mrs. Jennifer Grenier, who is the director at Fremont Middle School. The accompanist was O-C's own Mr. Bryan Bohn. The event was initiated and organized by O-C Vocal Music Director Mr. Alex Hoefling. Mr. Hoefling is the District Representative for 14 counties surrounding Burt County for the Nebraska Choral Director's Association, and is responsible for enhancing and initiating music making opportunities for area schools. The students learned their music prior to the festival, and will meet for an all day clinic on Saturday to rehearse together. The concert will featured our newly purchased choral shell, made possible by a generous grant from the Friends of Oakland Foundation. O-C Participants included: Ashlynne Gramke, William Wilkey, Winston Wilkey, Madison Enstrom, Emma Johansen, River Wallerstedt, Grace Wallerstedt, Lillian Ehlers, Caulin Johnson, Shea Crimmins, Piper Beltz, Lael Rathbun, Myesha Larson, Grace Petersen, Jaxen Jorgensen, Elijah Gahan, Madeline Pearson, and Emma Anderson. |
